Friday. Christmas Kaiser Party

Before finishing up our preceptorship in Kaiser last week, my classmates and I were fortunate enough to be invited to the annual Kaiser Christmas Party. Nice to see them again. Had some good food and good laughs with the skits and dances that the nurses put together. Just look at this:



After the Christmas Party headed to campus to hang at the dorms. Got some drinking done. Didnt even get a chance to sleep. Stayed up all night. Real fun night though. Brings me back to 3 years ago.

Super hungry in the morning so grabbed some breakfast crepes over in San Lorenzo. Got home a little before 10 and slept till 6 pm. I feel good.

Thursday. Mission Peak

Okay. Before I get on with today's happenings. Id like to show you this. This is what I have woken up to for the past week or so. Same cat in the same spot every morning looking into my kitchen. So weird.
Last night Chris and I were talking about what I had planned for this winterbreak. I thought about it and I didnt really have anything planned. He offered to go to Vegas but if we did go itd be only for a day since I have to attend to my parental obligations and attent a parent teacher conference for my little brother tomorrow. (my parents have work). So I suggested we stay local and go for a hike up Mission Peak. Since the weather has been freezing I heard theres snow up there.

So we went and checked it out. Pretty good hike. A total of 3 hours up and down. Cold and a bit windy at times but we managed. Its real nice up there. Its quiet. Coming down was a bitch on the feet though. Hot chocolate as a reward. Now time to rest.

Wednesday

Woke up with a fatty hangover today. I stayed in bed practically all day. Got to rest a whole lot. Watched movies, caught up with shows, stayed warm. I actually went running for a few miles. Getting ready for that boot camp class. I took it last year and it was brutal. Same teacher too so shes going to expect me to go hard. I need to get ready fast, I dont miss being sore every other day.

After running, I needed to get out so I met up with Chris at Paddy's to grab some tea. The regulars are there and its packed since everyone is studying for finals. (haha suckaas). Got hungry and went to Venus for some food. Spent the rest of the night there watching skate videos, facebook poker, and stuck on my phone playing words.

Planning on hiking Mission Peak tomorrow. I hope there's still snow up there. Snow in this area only comes very so often. I think the last time was in 2002? I hope it doesnt rain on our way up there. Pictures of that tomorrow. Goodnight.

Tuesday

Got woken up by Ruel. Like literally. We were suppose to go to the city to help Tim ship out his frame but I slept through his calls so he went to my house and woke me up. The rest of the day consisted eating, riding, and window shopping.


Went back to the east bay to hang out with Chris. Got some sushi and went drunk bowling.

So when me and Chris go bowling I cant just beat his score, I have to beat it 1.5 times more. Tonight I failed and had to drink 3 Big Daddys at Hooters. I got pretty hammered and definitely paying for it today.
Ive been in bed all day recuperating. I need some coffee.

Monday

Since this crazy weather has it snowing in the hills. First weekday of my winterbreak and I had to wake up early to drop off my brother to school so he doesnt freeze getting there.

It was too early and too cold so I went back to sleep and ended up sleeping in a little too much resulting in my being late to work... again. Good thing my mangers are hella cool. I feel bad though. Well, at least weve been really really slow. So I guess it doesnt really matter. But for the first half of my shift I was dying of boredom. I guess for some reason that I do not know, we are no longer allowed to be on our laptops or cellphones anymore. But after a few minutes I couldnt handle it any longer and was stuck on my phone playing "words with friends" and texting like crazy. Then a couple of hours more, I couldnt resist it any longer and got my laptop out. I mean not like being on the computer hinders my ability to do my job. I think it actually helps, it keeps me awake. So please, please, let us use our computers again.
I was starving after work and when I got home there was nothing for me to eat. I decided to head to Paddy's to grab some tea and a sandwich. Meet my "Popeye" sandwich with added eggs. So good. Oh and by the way, Paddy's is 24 hours for the next couple of weeks. So if any of you guys are ever bored in the middle of the night and need to get out of the house. Paddy's is the place to be.

City Loop. (most of it)

I was planning to check out the Super Market Street Swap race yesterday. But I failed and woke up late. I still made it out to the city to meet up with Ryan and Erica. We got too lazy to check out the after party for the race but still wanted to make the most of being out there. So we just decided to try and do a city loop with whatever sun we had left. Stopped by the island real quick to say the "whats ups?" and the "how you beens?" then got on our way.








The ride was pretty fun. It didnt get too cold till way late in the night and the wind wasnt bad at all. Some climbing and real fun downhills. Got to see some pretty nice views of the city that you wouldnt ussually see dont see. Ended up in Union Square and had a pretty hard time decided where to go eat. We decided to go to Jasmin's Cafe on Bush. Had me a Salmon burger which was relaly good. I highly suggest you try it out.




Went home and and went to a little party with Ru. Got home at 7. Woke up late and late again for work for like 2 months straight now... -__-

Goodbye Kaiser. Hello Winterbreak.

Yes. I am still alive. Sorry for the update-less week. Ive been busy getting some school stuff sorted out and what not.

But as of 2 p.m. today, I gladly announce that I am officially on winterbreak. It was my last day interning at Kaiser-Hayward. The past 10 weeks of my life was spent there. 3-4 days a week caring for patients, learning new skills, and trying to refine ones I already know. Each and every single day I felt like I was actually doing something worthwhile and that was a whole 180 degree turn from last year. The repetitive assignments, a midterm every 2 and a half weeks and a final every 5, spending 3-4 hours a night doing paperwork, and getting a mere 2-3 hours of sleep everynight. I am so happy to see that all that hardwork did not go to waste.

But I must say that even though I got a great final evaluation and it feels great to be stress free for a whole month, I was pretty sad leaving that floor. The nurses were great. They treated us students like their kids and some even referred to us as their children. Each and everyone of them were always there to help us, show us new situations, test our knowledge, and perform procedures that we werent even allowed to get close to last year. I will definitely make the walk to the hospital to visit. It is across the street. haha

and as a thank you to all of them. We gathered what very little money us poor college students have and brought them some food.





Now meet my preceptor. Ms. Marites. As a preceptor, I could not have asked for more. She might be little but dont let that fool you. She is so smart. She rarely writes things down but manages to remember everything. The first few weeks she left me and awe most of the time from the way she handled patient interactions to the how freaking fast she does anything and everything. I had a hard time keeping up, even her walking is fast, most of the time Im running to catch up to her. She keeps her composure no matter what and not once did I see her panic.

Not only that. But she is hella chill. She let me get so many days off. I didnt even go in the hospital during my birthday week. How cool is that? and when Im falling asleep while charting she sits there, laughs at me, and then she proceeds to tell me to wake up. One time I was 2 and a half hours late and she was totally cool with it. But I just want to say thank you once again. Working with you really made me feel like I made the right choice for my career. I hope Ill be able to work with you again in the future. SO. GET ME A JOB!! please.
After leaving the hospital. Went to school to drop of some final papers. Hung out with Krystle and Leah. Met up with Ryan and Mike. Had pho, perfect for this freezing weather and then we continued to freeze our asses off at Paddys. I really hate low my funds are. Its getting harder and harder to find things to do without spending money. But oh well. Gotta make the most out of it.



Oh. And Ive gotten pretty damn good at inserting IVs in people. So if you ever want one for any reason at all. Hollaaa
