Been in the big apple for 5 months now. Times sure does fly but I am definitely living the life that I want to live. Yes, I'm having a difficult time finding a job (career wise), but that's all part of the hustle. I'm still enjoying every minute of it, be it the ups or downs. New place, new people, new experiences. I'm learning something new about myself everyday, growing and maturing as each minute passes. Definitely loving everything about this city and all that it has to offer and I plan to stay here until I can say to myself that "I've made it." On my own standards and no one else.

But most importantly I get to spend everyday and every night with the person I love, a person that loves me as much, if not even more. Definitely wouldn't have been able to do this without her.

You know how at the end of every year everyone always say "Wow/omg/damn (etc). This year went by so fast." Well my 2011 definitely did not fly by. It went by just at the right speed and in my 24 years, last year has got to be my most memorable.

I accomplished so much and I've done so much growing up.

2011 started off with unemployment. I found myself being one of the many college graduates looking for a job. Well, I had 2 jobs but they weren't what I wanted to do. I was having such a difficult time starting my career as a nurse and as each day, week, month went by, I got more and more discouraged. I've never had trouble getting what I wanted and I wasn't used to being in that positing and it put me in a very dark place, got me thinking I wasn't good enough, and I was losing hope.

Then one day in February, I unexpectedly get a call with a job offer for a position as a District Nurse for Hayward Unified. Funny thing is that the whole time in school, being a school nurse never even crossed my mind. Now I was given this opportunity and I took it. It ended up opening my eyes to a totally different aspect of nursing that I pretty much had no idea about. But man, I found something there that I wasn't even looking for. It put me in a position to make a real impact on people, in this case the kids I was working with. Unlike working in a hospital, I was able to establish a relationship with them and see my hard work pay off. See them grow and hopefully learn and take something away from me was a big motivation and everyday I went home feeling awesome. On top of that I was surrounded by a wonderful group of women that took me in like I was their son. They taught me so much, not just about nursing but the doors it can open up for me.

One of those doors is an ability to transfer my nursing license to other states giving me the option of relocating. Yes, I this meant that I was going to leave the job that I unexpectedly fell in love with but you can never have everything and it was either stay in Hayward and work or explore and see what else is out there for me. That's exactly what I did. I picked up and moved to New York.

Moving across the country means that I will be away from my family. It was one sacrifice I had to make. But this distance between us has actually made all of us closer. I talk to my parents, grandparents, and siblings a lot more. Our conversations have a lot more content. Each phone call, text, has more meaning. I do miss them though.

Through all of this there has always been one constant. Maybe the best thing that happened to me, not just last years but in a very long time. Maia. We've been friends for many years but I would have never expected us to get to this point. I was able to establish a real and healthy relationship with her. Throughout last year shes stuck with me through all of my ups and downs. She pushes me, lets me dream, plan the future, and with her I feel like we can go and do anything we want. That's what I love most about us.

So here's to a great next year. To do bigger and better things. See places we've never seen before. Go places we've never been to. Build new friendships, keep and strengthen your current ones. You get what I'm saying...

Man. November was just a crazy month for me. Hence the reason why I didnt blog pretty much all month. There were too many things to talk about that I just wanted to compile everything in one post. Theres some things I can really or dont reall want to bring up on here since I think my Mom reads this thing haha.

But so far New York life has been busy like always. Fall is here and its getting real cold fast. Leaves has changed and falling off the trees. Still prepping myself for the snow.

I turned 24 this month. Man... Im getting old. But Maia set up things whole surprise for me and had one of my best friends fly out to New York to greet me a Happy Birthday. Thanks Chris for coming! (thats what she said)

Major NY Update

Damn. Been a long while. The past few weeks have been really really busy, but a good busy. Friend's visiting, hosting, being tour guides, checking out new places, partying, lots of drinking, a few hang overs, means a few call-ins to work, and over all lots of fun with good company.

Let's start with our 2 months anniversary in this city. To celebrate I went and bought Maia a fish. I've been wanting a pet to take care of and she's been wanting a fish. So win-win.
Made a trip to Coney Island with JP, Renee, and Carlo. All of our first time.

Can't wait to come back in the winter when it's quiet and peaceful.

The Neighborhood

Saturday night got a little too out of hand which caused me to miss work the next day, but I am so glad I stayed home. The weather was perfect, I felt rested, and had the whole day free. So we went around and explored the new neighborhood.

A lot of the buildings around are pre-war. The architecture on the buildings around are really cool and interesting. A lot of vintage details.
It seems like New York always has something going on. Art exhibit in the sky.

Thrift stores are just a few minute walk, found a cheap grocery store, and lots of restaurants around. We even have an antique shop next door!
I cant say it enough, but I am really happy about our place.

After a month bouncing around this new city, we've finally moved into a place we can finally call our own and man does that feel good. No more living off suitcases, microwaving left overs, sharing bathrooms, playing tetris with our luggage, etc.

Here are a few snaps of our place.

Although it would be nice to stay in something fancy, its not what I prefer. This place is just as I expected to be staying in, in New York. Old, with wear and tear. It's been here decades before me. Its got history, has character. Exactly how I like most of my things.

So if any of you are ever in the area. Come visit and take a look!

and I would like to thank the people that let us stay at their place to give us a chance to get on our feet. Really appreciate all of it.

Things I have learned in New York.

so far...

- act like you know where you're going. even if you're lost.
- you will get lost. but its pretty fun.
- then you'll learn that subways go in two directions. Uptown/Bronx and Downtown/Brooklyn. that's kind of all you really need to know.
- New Yorkers are actually pretty nice people once you start talking to them.
- to check if anyone is following you: do not look back, look at the cars on the street and check the reflection.
- always have cash on you. but not too much.
- in the later hours and you really need to pee. you can pretend like you're using the phone booth and pee at the same time. it works and no one can see you.
- it's not as expensive as everyone thinks. you just have to know where to go.
- $1 pizza are lifesavers.
- never take anything from anyone on the street. nothing here is free.
- never. ever. walk through and definitely not into the housing projects.
- you dont need GQ, Complex, Details, Esquire, or any other fashion magazine. just take a walk around town.
- Always check what the weathers gonna be like. If there is any chance of rain, bring an umbrella.
- Rain boots are a necessity. Bike locks are too.
- Jaywalking is highly acceptable. So are running red lights while you're on a bike.
- Bars/Clubs that play hip-hop are very hard to come by.
- Tap water here tastes pretty good.
- Express trains will save you lots of time.
- Express trains stop running later in the night. So if you don't take a cab home, expect to waste 2 hours of your life waiting for the train.
- Cabs are pretty cheap compared to the Bay Area.
- It's going to take a while to get used to the 3 hour time difference so in that case I should really go to sleep now. Ill add onto this later. Goodnight

One Month

We survived our first month in New York City!

Its been quite a ride since arriving to this city. From finding a place, being home sick, learning the subway, etc. has all put up a good challenge. But we're here sticking it out and things are starting to fall into place. We have a place of our own, jobs, and making new friends everyday. Things are going real good that our main concern at the moment is what were going to wear during the winter.

Been really busy apartment hunting and exploring the city. Also had to move from one place to another. Thanks to Dee and Carlo for hosting us till we can find a place for the month of September since the place we're gonna be moving into wont be available till October.

Apartment hunting in the Upper East Side. This area is exactly like the New York you see in the movies. After looking through some other apartments in not the best areas of Brooklyn, right when we walked out of the subway this area automatically became was our #1 choice for a place. But we ended up going finding a place back in Brooklyn.
The storms out here are crazy! One minute it'll be okay and the next itll be storming out! So this dinner was caused by a major downpour and we just walked into the closest door open.

Fette Aus? I think thats how you spell it but the it was pretty much a steak house and it was awesome. Priced by weight so you can get a little bit of everything.
Clubs/Bars here done close till early morning (4-5 am) so weekends are very tiring. Trains dont come as often too so it can take a couple hours coming from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Taxi's are a lifesaver.

Bay to LA: Day 3

Getting back to the LA bike trip.

Sleeping under the redwoods was pretty awesome BUT like the night before I was FREEZING! Slept with 4 jackets on and an emergency blanket, yea those foil ones people have after running a marathon or something. Had to take another nyquil to go to sleep and woke up multiple times throughout the night shivering. But oh well

Woke up early and had some canned pasta for breakfast. Started a fire to cook them on.
Nothing beats pasta with a hint of ash in the morning.

Then got greeted by this 2-3 mile uphill climb right at the very start of the ride. I was freezing with a bunch of layers on but by the time we hit the top I was drenched in sweat.
The views were worth it though.

On the left is a garden. A garden in the middle of nowhere and that guy in the white t-shirt was there maintaining it. Complete with sprinklers are everything.
Ran into this group of riders from across the country doing the same exact route we were doing except they were supported and being followed by a van. Pretty cool, they let us use their pump.
Stopped at this restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Not trying to stereotype but I think they were a bit racist. They were pretty mean and when we wanted to eat at the restaurant they said they were going to be closed for lunch and on top of that the lady told us that while she was eating a damn burger AND then 2 people came out of the restaurant with burgers in hand! Then the lady told us the next closest restaurant was 15+ miles away!...
I think their cat was even racist. It tried to bite me.
It took us a very long time to get out of Big Sur's rolling hills. After going through all those hills everything seemed so much easier though.

Rest of the ride for the day was pretty much the ocean to our right and dry hills on the left. 109 miles of riding that day. At least we ended up in San Luis Obispo and finally had a bed to sleep in.

New York!

We're finally here!

It took a lot of planning and even more hard work, but we made it. It's still surreal that I'm now 3000 miles away from home. I give it a few more days to finally hit me. So far it's a lot of walking, getting lost, exploring, and taking in so much it's a bit overwhelming, but it's pretty damn awesome.

We're currently on the unemployment train and still waiting for our stop to a place to live in. This is giving me plenty of time to relax and get everything in order. I know things are going to work out so I'm being patient, but I'm hoping to settle in our place soon so we can really start, start living our lives in this new and exciting place.

The Empire State.

Moving to New York was the most difficult thing I have ever done in my life. I've put myself through a month of work with no days off, working 3 jobs at one point, and working a full weeks worth in just a couple of days to be able to save enough money to do this. I left a job that I love, my friends, but most of all my family.

This decision wasn't an easy one, but it was made because of a series of events, events that didn't go my way and at times has put me in some of the lowest points of my life. But those same events made me stronger (pardon the cliche), made me hungry, made me want more, and gave me the motivation and drive to be more.

More. Not more money but more as a person. To experience new experiences, to take in new cultures, taste new food, and learn life lessons. I want to grow old and be able to talk about the things I've done, the places I've been, the amazing views my eyes have seen.

I want to show my parents that they've raised a good son. That all of their hard work, their patience, all those years of putting up with my crazy antics were worth it. I could tell them that they've taught me manners, morals, and instilled in me determination, hard work, responsibility and countless other traits to be used for tools to success. I could tell them that I appreciate all of the things that they have done for me, I want to make them proud. But you know what, I would rather show them. That's what I'm doing.

Most of all, I want to show my little brother and sister that there is a whole world outside of "home." I could sit them down and tell them that they can do whatever the hell they want to do. Tell them that you can be whatever you want to be. I want to tell them to step out of their comfort zone. I want tell them that they can make their own options and explore those same options, but more importantly to explore the world. I want to tell them that hard work will always take you places. But I would rather show them. That's what I'm doing.

I want this move to make me a better son. To make me a better brother. To make me a better person. That's what I'm striving for.

P.S. It's a whole lot better than living at home leeching off your parents' money. Just sayin'

Bay to LA: Day 2

Sorry for the lag. I just realized I only have a few days left till I move and didn't realize how much stuff I have to do.

But here is Day 2.

Woke up freezing. I actually barely slept cause I was so cold. My sleeping bag didn't keep me warm at all. I even took NyQuil to help me go to sleep. But here's Jeff again... last one to get ready.

So Im actually scared of heights and for some reason riding on those bridges had me really scared. Might have been that I was inches from the barrier with the ocean a hundred feet down and the wind blowing me all over the place, but that had me riding through those as fast as I can. At one point I ended up leaving Tommy and Jeff. I looked back no one was there.
I dont know if you're able to see it, but we didnt have a lot of space to ride on. Sometimes there wasnt even any space.
This was at one of the highest peaks in Big Sur.
So this spot. I almost died on. The higher we rode the stronger the wind got. We stopped at this turnoff to take a picture and the wind was howling. Literally. We take pictures and get back on the bike. As soon as I get on and let go of the brakes the wind pushed me 6-7 feet to my left and almost into a car! I was able to grab the brakes and stop right before.

The wind out there was very unpredictable. You had the wind coming from the ocean and when it hit the cliff it would circle back out so you would have pockets of wind coming from your left and right which made it very tricky to control the bike. Especially since Im very light and that made it easier to push me around.

I tried to descend after the incident but I found that I was just unable to control it. I had to stop and take off my jacket because it was catching too much wind and I went ahead and took up the full lane so I had space between me and the edge of the cliffs.

No one got hurt and we eventually made it to our campsite. Pfeiffer State Park.

Met a couple other people touring down the coast. Very interesting to hear their stories and find out where theyre from, how long have they been riding, what they do for a living, etc. Also got to take a shower and do some laundry. The campsite actually had a laundromat, crazy huh? But it was nice lighting up and sitting next to the fire for a couple of hours. Its so quiet out there, the air is so fresh, and you can see a whole lot of stars. I wouldn't mind going back.

Bay to LA: Day 1

Allright. Im back from my trip. Biked all the way down to Los Angeles, well actually all the way down to Long Beach. Took us 5 days and almost 600 miles of riding. My body is now recovered and Im trying to gain the 14 pounds that I lost on the trip. So here is a recap.

Day 1

Left an hour later than we planned cause Jeff was lagging which would be an everyday thing during this trip.

Somewhere in San Jose
Had to ride on this rocky path to get to out of Los Gatos. These guys had to walk their bikes cause their bikes were too heavy to ride up the steep hill with all of their gear.
Here we are riding next to Highway 17. We had a hell of a time finding this road. We had to ride on this dirt path for about had a mile. We were even contemplating of crossing the freeway but we managed.

Reached our destination point. Capitola. Then Tommy got a flat.
Couldnt check into the campsite till later in the afternoon so we stuffed ourselves with some mexican food.

Had some fun collecting all these little timbers and dried grass to make some fire later.

We bought some hotdogs for dinner but we didnt have a pan or skewers to cook them on. So we took twigs and made some ourselves. The hotdogs turned out really really good, but maybe because we just rode 80 miles.

I was also craving some tea so I went ahead and cut up my Fosters can and dropped it in the coal.
and it worked!
Total miles for the day was about 80 miles. Rode around the town for a bit. Took some nyquil to help me sleep but I kept waking up through the night cause the sleeping bag I bought didnt work very well in keeping me warm. I slept with 4 jackets on! But yea. very good first day. Day 2 tomorrow.

Bay to LA

Were finally doing it. A couple friends and I are actually and finally riding out bikes from the Bay to Los Angeles. This is a a big reason of why Ive been so busy is that Ive been trying to ride my bike as much as possible to train my legs. So I wont be posting (not like I do anyways) for a week. We will be leaving tomorrow morning and be back next Sunday night taking Amtrak back up. Wish us luck and Ill make sure to take lots of pictures!

Work

I feel like all my blog posts talk about work. Its pretty much been my life these past couple of months. Coming out of school I always expected that making good money was going to make my life easier but its totally done the opposite. I dont have as much time to spend with friends and family. Each hour of my day is so valuable. I hate it. But as of tomorrow I will be back to being unemployed. I cannot wait.

Making some money has allowed to do some things Ive always wanted to though. Like being able to get the bill during family dinners or taking my Mom and siblings shopping. That definitely makes all these crazy work hours worth it.

Falling into place

My plans are slowly falling into place. All of my hard work is finally paying off. At this point Im just counting down days. Till then Im just going to keep working and riding my bike with a little bit of other things here and there.
Been trying to get as much riding as I can to help prepare my legs for out Santa Cruz to Los Angeles bike trip. From July 25th-30th
Had to give this little guy away cause in about a month or so I wont be able to take care of him. :( I miss hid pretty face. Im just gonna have to get another one.

I know. I know. I stopped blogging again.

This new job has got me slaving! So I'm back on making the most out of whatever free time that I have. I also been doing a lot of planning for some things in the future, but I won't let that leak yet until everything is set.

The past week or so have been a lot of fun though.

Day 11: Your family

Im really close to my Mom's side. To them, family really comes first. They came from a poor background in the Philippines and the only thing they had were each other. That stays true to this day.

On the other hand. My Dad's side, well we might as well be strangers. I'm not going to sugar coat things, but other than a few cousins, I could care less for any of them. I had a long rant about all the things I dislike about them and all the other things they lack but its not worth my time.

But you know that saying "blood is thicker than water"? That might be true but the people I consider family goes far beyond people that are blood related. My friends too, are family.

Days like these

Make me really happy and appreciate everything around me. So I'm taking a break from my "30 day challenge."

But I don't know if it's the summer weather we've been having or just having enough time between my life and work that I'm able to do all the things I want to do without being stressed and tired.

Today was the first real summer day we've had. High 70's with a cool breeze and everyone just seemed relax, enjoying the weather. I got to sleep in, got to be a bum for a few hours. Picked up my Uncle from the airport, got to see my Grandpa, accompanied Maia to her oral surgeon, thrift town, Area Cycles, and an amazing ride out to Berkeley.

Although it might not have been the safest route, we rode through the ghetto part of Oakland at night. I know people hear all these bad things that happen around there, shootings, murders, robberies, etc. I'm not gonna say it's not true but it's way less dangerous than what everyone else makes it seem. Maybe I'm biased since I live in Hayward but I have never had a problem in any area most people consider "ghetto."

The weather was awesome and we were just flying through there. Got to Berkeley and all of us stopped by to pick up some Top Dog. If you haven't been there, better put it on your bucket list, cause it's something you have to eat before you get too old and can only eat blended stuff.
After filling up, picked up some beers and we hung around the stairs at Sproul Plaza in UC Berkeley. Two summers ago, we would end up hanging out here at least 2-3 times a week. Definitely nice talking about old times, being with good company, and sharing laughs the whole entire time.
Ended the night with this cool old man playing us some music while we wait for out train.

Rode with my little brother. He actually saw his friends riding around on our way and I told him to go ride with them but he said that he rides with them all the time and he would rather ride with me cause I'm always busy and rarely have free time to ride with him. That made me feel really good. Kid's got a lot of potential.
Later that night, had dinner with Maia and we went out for dessert. Dessert meaning beers, cookies, and ice cream. Definitely had a good night.

Day 9: How important I think education is

I know I didn't blog the last couple of days, but I have a totally legitimate reason. I was having too much fun away from the computer. Oh and working... -_-

But hmm... how important is education? I have a lot to say but I'm going to pass. These types of things are way more fun when you have someone to discuss them with. Here's something quick though:

I believe that having some type of education is important. Especially education that isn't limited to a classroom. Education can be attained from the streets, from life experiences, from your elders, discovery channel, etc. Being book smart doesn't mean shit if you can't use what you know/have learned out in the real world. I have met people that have gone to big name colleges and have made nothing of themselves and I have met people that dropped out of high school and are very successful. So in my opinion it all boils down to how one makes use of education.

I mean if education was such a sure pass to being successful in life and being accepted in society cause I guess having a piece of paper handed to you at graduation makes you a better human being. College graduates would be wiping their asses with dollar bills and we wouldn't have way less ignorant people in this world.

Day 8: What I ate today

The district nurses had their end of the year potluck brunch today. So I got to spend my morning with all of these wonderful ladies, full of wisdom, stories, and advice. They are always watching out for me and trying to teach me life lessons. When I'm at work I feel like I have 10 mothers, but that's a good thing.

Today was also extra special, I tried to take in every minute cause with my future plans, there is a very good chance I wont be seeing them next year. I am definitely going to miss each and every single one of them.
So back on topic. The food.
I had a little bit of each. I didn't know what 90% of the food was, but it sure tasted good. Also had some mimosas and fancy french champagne flowing. The weather was also perfect. I wanted to take a nap so bad after stuffing myself with all the good food.
Later in the afternoon, Jeff and I went for a ride to visit the guys at Area Cycles. Hung out for a bit. On the way back we grabbed some mexican food. I had me a super taco, horchata, and the usual condiments.
Oh and I guess Ive been biking in these shorts so much a hole developed on my shorts. haha

Day 7: Five Pet Peeves

1. Cutting: No not wrists. Lines. This applies especially to Chinese people on BART or at the grocery store, Indians come in a close second. So rude.

2. Acting High and Mighty: I do not care how much money you make, how nice your car is, or how big your house is. You gotta stay humble. Don't belittle people. Having all those things does not make you a better person.

3. Being Late: Especially as of late, my life has gotten really busy where I have to make every single hour in a day count. I don't want to be waiting for your lagging ass. If you know well ahead of time and we agreed when to meet, I expect you to be there.

4. Diets: Well not specifically dieting in general. More like people that make such a big deal out of it. I respect that you're trying to stay healthy, drop a few pounds, getting your summer body ready, etc. But please don't make a scene at a restaurant about how you can't eat this or eat that, how fatty or unhealthy that food is, how it can give you high blood pressure, etc. Mentioning you're on a diet is enough, after that just keep it to yourself. Go chew on a carrot or something.

Okay I hit a road block. I cant think right now so #5 is gonna have to wait.

Allright. Continued:

5. Douchey Drivers: When someone signals to try and get in your lane, let the person in. It's not that big of a deal to lose a car length. Don't tailgate me or flash your high beams, I'll just go even slower. Don't honk unless you really need to. Please go speed limit or 5-10 miles faster. Don't double park on a busy street or parked in the middle of a street and have a conversation; it's not safe, people have to get to places, and it's just common courtesy. Don't take up two parking spaces, you'll have a higher chance getting your car keyed. When filling up gas, please give enough space so you the car next to you can have room to fill up. Last but not the least, watch out of cyclists, were considered vehicles on the road too.

Day 6: My views on mainstream music

I don't even know if I have the energy to blog right now. I ended up riding 70 miles today. That's after being off the bike for almost 3 weeks so I'm pretty spent. Also I don't really feel like its worth discussing this topic. Everyone is going to like different types of music. As long as I like how it sounds, that is all that matters to me. Too many people get too serious about what other people listen to. Its not that serious... bro.

Because of all the things Ive been through with all of you, all the fighting, the drama, the downfalls. I've learned so much. I can honestly say that Ive become a better person because of all of that. Now I know what I want, when to speak up, when to bite my tongue and let shit go, etc.

It's not only the bad things, the good things too. I cant deny that some of you really did make me genuinely happy and I hold onto those moments, they mean something to me. At some point in time you guys were the most important people in my life. I can never change that.

The Five People You Meet In Heaven

Why? For my cousin.

My Dad moved to the United States for work to try and give us, his family, a better life. Leaving my Mom, my younger sister, and I in the Philippines. So growing up I never really had a father around to look up to, but my cousin was there to fill the gap. He was the coolest kid around, the one everyone knew, the one everyone loved. He got all the girls and just had so much swag. Yes, I said swag.

Anyways I always looked up to him, I idolized him. He was the one I went to when I was in trouble, actually being the oldest cousin he was the one everyone went to whenever anyone got into trouble. Family was always his priority. He did anything and everything he felt like doing, dealing with consequences were an after thought. That was one of the main traits I always envied about him. On top of all of that, he was one of the nicest people I know. He will take the shirt off his back and give it to you without hesitation.

One of his friends even told me a story, that when my cousin left the Philippines to join the US Navy, he boarded the plane with just a backpack wearing a tank top, shorts, and sandals. All because he gave all of his possessions away! I cant say enough about him. I can go on forever and it wont even get close to show how great of a person he is.

Sadly, a few years ago he passed away. It broke me, I still really can't talk about it to this day. I miss him so much and if wishes did come true I would really like to see him again. Share a drink or two and talk about all the mischief we got into growing up. I know that one day that wish will come true. I also know that you never really know what life will throw at you and there is a big chance I will be losing more of the important people in my life and when they do, this book gives me hope that Ill see those people again.

I would take the time to explain more in depth but I am tired. Its a Friday and I just finished another work week. But all Im saying is that hard work pays off. Work your ass off so you have a legitimate reason to go out and party that same tired, overworked, underpaid, ass off. It'll feel a whole lot better and by just being consistent, persistent, and determined. Working hard will get you somewhere better than where you're at now.

Day 1: Five ways to win my heart.

Yea. The picture above would be one of them, but Im trying not to be shallow. So here you go:

1. Adventure: have a sense of this. I can get pretty spontaneous at times and tend to do things just because. This means you have to be willing to get lost with me, I promise it wont be boring, you will see things you've never seen before, and finding our way back is half the fun. But really its because I want to see and do as many things as I can before I die, I don't want to live a routine life. I want each day of my life to be an adventure.

2. Ambition: I've been told I have a lot of this. I hope you do too. Know that there is always something better, but also know when you have something good. I want someone who has goals and the determination to go after them, no matter what the cost. I mean if you never chase your dreams and ambitions, they're pretty much worthless.

3. Patience: I can get out of line sometimes, especially when I'm under the influence. Okay, sometimes I just dont give a damn and I can be the biggest asshole. I want someone by my side to keep me in check, set me straight, and maybe even slap me in the face if I cross the line. I want you to have enough patience to stay by my side no matter how big of an asshole I can be. You'll also need a lot of patience when I'm acting like half my age, which is at least 46% of the time. Just a heads up.

4. Talent: everyone has their own special set. Just have one that I wish I could do. It doesn't have to be something amazing, but I want to be able to ask you how you do it. This can be from juggling to writing amazing literature. Just remember that I am very easily amused.

5. Passion: well, if you're one of those people that think that you absolutely have no talent whatsoever, you can make up for it by having passion. I want you to be so passionate about something, anything, just be so passionate that no one can ever question why you do it and even if they do, you have your heart so deep into it that they can't help but have respect for you. I want to see that in you, cause I can only imagine when you put that same passion into... us.

Life has been busy as usual but not stressful at all. Work is good, just started another job, Im finding time to do everything I was and spend time with the people I want to spend time with. So everything is good.

Lets see what else. I won 4th place at the most recent Fremont Alleycat cause we took a wrong turn. Went to Great America for work to chaperon a diabetic student. Saw Ms. Lauryn Hill in concert along with Dead Prez.

Awesome Day

Today was a really good day. Actually I cant really complain about the past few weeks. Everything has been going pretty well, or that Ive just learned to not let all the bad stuff affect me. Cause I am having some car problems at the moment which left me with no choice but to ride my bike to work. That mean riding back and forth from school all day. But you wont hear no complaints here. This is one of the reasons why I love my job. In nursing school I always dreaded the thought of wearing scrubs for the rest of my life. I would have never thought I could dress up in regular clothes, ride my bike all day, and still be a nurse! Awesome right?
Well after work I got a text from Ruel telling me to go to Berkeley to meet up with Ryan. It was spontaneous, I had no plans for the rest of the day, and I feel like my life is starting to turn into a routine, so I rode to the closest BART station and headed out to meet up with them.
Saw this really cool BART ad. Id like to see more ads like these. Artistic, creative, and still easy enough to translate what its trying to show; that BART is filled with weirdos.
As I got out of Downtown Berkeley, there were teachers with picket signs. Its about the current problem with the state budgets and how they are trying to lay off a whole bunch of school staff, and that is even including the nurses. We'll find out tomorrow though if Ill be staying next year or not, but either way I have a Plan B so Im not so worried. The other nurses are though, since some of them are nearing retirement age and their choices for other jobs are very slim, especially in this economy. So hoping for the best.
Met up Ryan and Ruel at the "stairs" at the UC Berkeley campus. We used to do at least once a week summer of '09. We were all unemployed or working 1-2 days a week and just had nothing to do but ride bikes and eat. I still dont know how we were able to afford all of that, but we always managed to do the things we wanted to with spending the minimum amount of money.
I was hungry and Ruel came up with the BEST idea of the day. To go eat at Brazilian Cafe! I havent been here in almost a year and I LOVE their tri-tip sandwich. Ahhh so good.
After filling up we went and rode to Montano Velo to talk and look at bikes. Got some tea to try and wake up Ruel and headed home.
Montano Velo had a bin of vintage cycling jerseys, bibs, shorts, etc. and they were cheap! I felt like a kid in a candy store. I had to control myself and not go crazy. But I did pick up a kit and a jersey. These are usually really expensive, I was really happy to get these for the price that I did. Plus they look pretty damn good and fit me really well.
But man, today was really really good. It felt the same way back 2 years ago. When all we really did was hang out all day. I felt unemployed! haha. I had no worries, just enjoying the wonderful weather, riding, joking around, eating, and all the usual shenanigans. Ah such a good day. We definitely need to have more of these. Summer is just around the corner though and I have a feeling we will.

Windy

No words could describe how windy it was out today. I know that it didnt seem that windy when you got to the suburbs but out in the hills and in the open it was totally nuts. This is probably the worst wind I have ridden in, ever, and thats saying a lot. But my legs managed to get me out to the bay out in coyote hills. Havent been there in a while, so it was real nice just sitting there and relaxing for a bit, stretching my legs, and snacking on some granola bars.
On the way I ran into this snake. This picture does not do it justice. That thing was pretty fat, I wanted to go hold it but I passe cause I didnt want to get bit.

Later on went and met up with Scotty. Havent seen him in a while so it was nice to catch up for a bit. Hung around Bicycle Garage the rode to Petco cause he needed to go buy meal worms for his lizards. I needed to buy mice for my snake too but their prices were twice as much of what I usually pay. So I decided to pass on that, I could get my snake 2 for their price of one. My snake wont die, he might get angry and think my fingers are food, but he wont die.

Ive been hearing that saying too many times from too many people, so I found some time to finally update. Im still very surprised how much my life got busier and how much less time I have once I got out of school. One would think that it would be the total opposite.

Anyways, got some free time this weekend to hang out in the San Francisco. Got to see and hang out with old friends that I have seen in a while. Also rode around the city like how it was 2 summers ago. Felt really nice, but made me miss the good days of riding. Not a lot of pictures posted cause I dont have much time. Im planning on taking an easy day tomorrow so Ill more than likely have some time to update too.
Today was a good day though. Work went well, got another job lined up for the summer, thrift shopping, crab sandwich, lame jokes, ice cream, people watching, the awesome weather, and Im home early enough to catch some much needed sleep. Cant get much better (on a work week).

Keeping my word

I always try to be true to my word. So here is another post for this week. Maybe its better if I update more that way I wont be all backed up trying to sort out which photo goes where and what story goes with it. But anyways, other than working and relaxing Ive finally set a goal for myself to reach in the next couple of months and I am well on my way to getting there. It feels really nice to have something to work towards to again. On top of that its something that Ive wanted for so long but just never been the right time or Ive never been in the right position to pursue it, but everything seems to be falling in place now and now its just a waiting game. Ill update (the 6 of you that read this) later on the whole story. Till' then... enjoy!

Ive just been busy with working, hanging out, working, spending time with family and friends, and getting tons of miles on the bike. Spring Break

After my graduation last June I didnt expect to have another spring break ever again. Well who would have thought. Thanks to my job following the school schedule I was able to have a whole week off of work. The following is more for my recollection cause busy days just seem to mix into one another and in a couple weeks I forget what I did. So here goes.

Monday: The majority of this day was devoted to one thing: get to the top of Mt. Hamilton. I think its the highest peak in the Bay Area.

I woke up and just out of spontaneity, decided I would go and ride my bike from Hayward to the top. It totaled 100 miles round trip and took me a total of 7 hours. I was exhausted! Didnt bring enough water or food, but I toughed it out and made it to the top, where they had a vending machine! I spent the next 45 minutes standing next to the heater eating chocolate and peanuts drinking water. Eventually made it home.

The rest of the night was spent buying food for my snake and turtles and recovering.
Tuesday: I went with my Dad to take my Mother to the doctors so she can finally get surgery on her shoulder. She tore her rotator cuff from work and has been waiting on this surgery for 4 months now.

While waiting, my Dad and I grabbed some Korean food. We waited 6 hours! till my Mom was able to go home. She was all drugged up and stuff ahah.

Wednesday: Okay I lied. I wasnt totally off work for the whole week. Wednesday I had to go into work at my eye surgery job. But it was an easy day with only a few surgeries and I was out of there before noon.

The rest of the day I had lunch with friends, enjoying the sun, and ended it by hanging out with my grandparents.

Thursday: San Jose Fixed Gear threw a BBQ for one of the member's birthday, but he never showed up! It was still good times though, it hella reminded me of 2 summers ago when everyone was really into bikes and actually riding them. Tricks were more fixed gear specific rather than more bmx-y like how it has been. Also I cant forget the amazing weather and all the amazing people I hung out with and met. Probably one of the best summers of my life so far.

Oh and Sabor at night. That was fun. Havent been there in a while and lots of people came out. Definitely bringing back memories.
Friday: Was suppose to ride Mt. Diablo but my ankle was hurting pretty bad that I dont think I would have made it up to the top of the mountain. So instead, Jeff and I woke up Ruel and ended up having a pretty good day of riding around locally.

Before riding around though I went and took a nap in his guest room. We went and rode to Fremont and got ourselves some Country Way. If youve never been there, youre definitely missing out. Met up with some of his high school friends, then Vernon met us up and rode back to Union City to end the hot day with some halo-halo. So good.

Saturday: I know its a Saturday and all, but this was the only day where I totally had nothing planned. Well I was suppose to have dinner with some college friends later in the night but I ended up flaking cause no one was gonna be home to take care of my Mother.

The weather was a bit gloomy in the morning so I was able to sleep in and stay in bed pretty much all day. Then the sun decided to come out and play for a bit so I hopped on my bike and rode to the park a coupe blocks away from my house. Definitely had me nostalgic since this was the park my friends and I used to hang around in high school. I also remember playing basketball with my cousin here.

While there I spotted this Dad teaching his kid how to fly a kite. So precious.
Sunday: Woke up early and met up with Jeff to go on a ride. Ended up riding from my house up to Grizzly Peak and down to Berkeley. So many bikers were out that day. The weather couldnt be any more perfect. I wish every single day was like that.

Got lunch over in Berkeley at one of my favorite spots. The food is good but not amazing, I go here for the chai tea and the outside seating. Just one of those spots I can chill and think and not worry about anything else going on in the world.
On the way home we decided to sit lakeside at lake merritt, it was just too nice to pass up.
When I got home I got ready and took my Mom and brother to meet up with my dad so we can hang out with him while he went fishing. Look how nice of a day it was!

I was getting really hungry and my Dad had told me that there are guava trees on the other side of the lake. It was about a 20 minute walk but I was determined to find it, and found it I did. Best believe I ate till I was satisfied. I also took some back for my Mom, Dad, and dropped some off at my Grandparents later.
Monday: Back to the normal routine again. Sleep, wake up, work, go home, ride the bike, rest, sleep, vice versa. But did get to hang out and get a good short ride in with friends. Always good times.

Past Week

Another week passed and found some time to update. Some pictures below, there are a lot more but I decided Id limit it to no more than 15 each update to save me some time and hopefully that way I can get to updating because the more pictures the longer it takes.

So my Grandpa is healing up well. His bandages can now be changed by family members. I know youre thinking that Im a nurse so why wasnt I doing it in the beginning. Well like pretty much everything, there are a lot of legal limitations to what I can do with my license and since my Grandpa isnt a patient assigned to me, I couldnt do much. But now we got the permission to change his dressings.

This is what his stomach looks like. Something like Frankenstein huh?

Did a vision and hearing screening for my job at my old high school! Got to walk the same hallways I used to walk in 5 years ago. Seems so much smaller than back then. Brought back a lot of memories and makes me wish I was a kid again.

Lunch.
I havent bought anything for retail price in soooo long. Im guessing 2 months. Only place I have been shopping at, are thrift stores. Its totally worth it, no one else will have the same one and you can find some awesome clothes for 2-3 bucks. Cant go wrong with that. Here is a Gucci tie I found that only cost me $1.99!
My badge for work finally came in! Official!
My tattoo is healing up fast and its looking good.

Last night was spent in San Francisco. Had dinner at Torantino's (sp?) at Pier 39. Nice fancy-ish romantic dinner.
Then spent 45 minutes looking for parking to head tot he Elbo Room to check out some performances.

I forgot the name of this first group but they were really good. Kinda like a Beats, Turntable band.
But the main even was Dj Numark of Jurassic 5. He didnt play as much hip-hop as I expected but he was still good. Got the crowd moving.

Once again got caught up with life. Been busy working but I actually had the weekend off to sleep in and recover. But I dont think 2 days was long enough. I just need to stick it out 5 more days and I get a whole week off to have some fun.

Went to my sister's badminton game where she won. I was also able to see my old coach and some of my old teammates from high school.
Had dinner with my old co worker Khider. This guy has seen me grow up since I was 17. Hes still the same super nice guy and its good to know he is doing good.

XI.X.MMMVII. I know its nothing amazingly creative or artistic but it means a lot to me. It was the perfect first tattoo. Its for one of the most influential and important person in my life. For my cousin and that is his death anniversary.

There are also some things I want to touch on but I think its best if I dont. I have been doing really good at picking my battles and keeping my life drama free. But sometimes its just unavoidable and last night should have ended on a happy note, but it didnt. Its too late to change that...

Blogging 2 days in a row! Its been a while since that happened. I remember when I had so much free time I was updating this thing almost everyday.

But back on topic. Even with the daylight savings time taking away an hour of my sleep, my Monday went pretty damn well.

Had a real good day at work. Im slowly but surely getting the hang of things. No problems and pretty much stress free day. Had time to stop by and check on my Grandpa after. Since the rain gods decided to take a break, I made use of the rest of my day by getting on the new bike and taking it for a spin with Jeff. Up to the top of the hayward hills, down to castro valley, and back over to san leandro/hayward area.

Had a good dinner. Dessert was up there too.

Im still here

I know I keep apologizing about not updating enough, but I really dont know what else to say. Life has gotten so busy lately. I havent had a day off in 3 weeks and each day is booked from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed. I dont even have time to nap! Its cool though. Im gonna start having weekends off and a whole week for spring break to anything I want.

But as for whats been going on in my life.

Today, after working for 5 years, was my last day working for Motel 6. I know its not the most elegant place to work at nor did it pay great. But I enjoyed every single day I was there. I was able to be exposed to a lot of different types of people which helped improved my people skills and handling complaints and problems. But what I loved most about were my co workers. They were like second family, always looked out for each other and you can always go to them if you needed someone to talk to. We pretty much have the same team as when I first started. These guys have watched me grow up, since I was 17! They still say I havent changed much though, I just have longer hair haha. But ahh anyways, dont wanna get all sad about it, I can always stop by and visit. I mean we still keep in touch with our favorite security guard till this day and he hasnt worked with us for nearly 3 years. Im really gonna miss that place. This picture below was taken in the last 10 minutes of my "career" there.
Moving onto different topics in no particular order.

My long time good friend Vernon finally got a bike! Took him out for a quick short ride around his area. Im so glad hes riding, one more person on a bike, less cars on the road. Feels nice to also share my love for riding, feels good to show them new places they would have never seen in a car.

It was also my Mother's 49th birthday. Took her and the family out for dinner. And since Ive been working a whole bunch, dinner was on me!
Here is a shot of what I wear to work. We dont have a set dress code so I have some freedom to get creative. Way better than wearing scrubs for the rest of my life.
Back when I was in high school you would come across the typical condom wrapper, but nope, kids these days are stepping it up.
Went to my brother's school for their movie night fundraiser. Despicable me was an awesome movie.

One of the best news from last week was that my Grandpa was discharged from the hospital and is doing great. he is now back at home and is improving pretty fast. Hes up and able to walk on his own. Still not 100% but hes well on his way. But check out his hotel... I mean hospital room.

Went to Pet Smart in San Leandro to visit their cats.

But this guy is my favorite! 23 pounds!
So handsome. Hes also surprisingly light on his feet. I want to adopt him so bad but my mom would kill me. But imagine sleeping with this guy next to you.

I also just picked up a new bike. A road bike, havent been on one since I sold my GT to Ryan. Ive been wanting one since, since it opens up a lot more riding options. But I didnt want to rush into buying the first bike I saw. I was patient and I just kept saving until I ran across this guy. 2010 BMC road racer with complete SRAM rival group. Such a great ride. Havent had much time to break it in, but once I get some free time, this will see tons of miles.
Actually took the new for a ride up my old college the other day. This was at the end of the day.
Pepperlunch for dinner with Ruel, Erica, Ryan, and Manny.
Last but not least. I have been a regular at my local pet store. Its all because I gotta feed my snake every week. Speaking of my snake, its gotten so aggressive lately, which I found out is because I have been feeding it in the same cage that its learned that when I stick my hand in there, it means its dinner time for him. Gotta get another tank to train him not to try and bite me.

Nursing

I remember being a senior in high school and trying to decide which path to take once I graduated. I had the choice of going to a major UC or settle in a state school. With all the hard work I put in throughout high school which landed me in the top 2% of my class and with a long list of AP and Honors classes under my belt, going to a UC would have been the "right" choice. But that would have meant moving away, spending a ton of money, not knowing what to major in, and coming out of school with a bunch of loans to pay off.

Because of all the above, my Mom, being the practical one, approached me with the idea of staying at home and just settling for a state school. This way I would be able to be there for my siblings as they grew up, spend time with my grandparents, and my Mom and I could help each other with books and tuition expenses.

That led me to think real hard with what I could do with myself at a state school. I wanted to come out of college with a respectable profession that would allow me to support myself and my family and at the same time didn't require me to be in school for 6-10 years. I wanted to get in and get out as soon as possible to help my parents with expenses so they can go on and enjoy their lives.

That's the main reason that led me to choose nursing. I know there's the typical the whole wanting to do good and help others being the primary excuse to go into the profession, but 80% of the people that would tell you that would be lying. Nursing has attracted so many people for all the wrong intentions.

Thats just one of the many reasons why my outlook on nursing has been tarnished throughout the years. Sure making tons of money, having nice cars, living in big houses, traveling the world, and living the good life is great. But all those material things can only take you so far. You gotta go into it because you love it.

Which is why I am so grateful of my new job. Not only do I get an office, a personal computer, a cellphone, benefits, and awesome co-workers. But most of all I get to be around all these happy kids all day. Being in an environment where innocence is still present and the worries of adult life is non existent, you can't help but smile. I can wake up in the morning and look forward to working. I'm also in a position to make an impact on these kid's lives and that's what I intend to do. I just hope the state puts in more funds into the school district so no one else gets laid off, cause I love what I do.

Sorry... again. Finding time to sit down and update this thing has been quite the challenge lately. You know when parents always used to complain about how they dont have enough time to do everything. Well I never really grasped that until recently.

The whole reason for that is that... I finally landed a job! I know that I have jobs already but this is a job that relates to my career and I work at more than 1 day out of the week. Where? Well Hayward Unified School District was nice enough to offer me a position as one of their district nurses. Yesterday was my first day at the job and I am loving every single minute of it. Ill update on more of the specifics next time. Whenever that may be.

Kid was a trooper. Never gave up. Sometimes complained about his legs burning but complained with a smile and never stopped.

Got a flat the other night and had to walk home in the freeing cold.

Oh but by getting a new job I was forced to make the tough decision to quit my hotel receptionist job, which I have been working for, for a total of 5 years now. We still pretty much have the same team working there since I started which means that these guys have watched me grow up since I was 17 years old! It was definitely sad but I just had to. I know they understand but if I had a choice or there were 9 days out of the week instead of 7 so I can have days off I definitely would have stayed. But my manager was nice enough to offer not to terminate me but keep me on the payroll just in case I change my mind or have some free time I can come back and work anytime. Ahhh... felt like a break up. But at least it ended on good terms. haha

To the few of you that read this. Sorry that I havent been updating as much as I used to. Life has been putting a lot on my plate lately. Which I really love because I feel like I am making the most out of every single minute. Never really have time to sit down and upload pics and write on my days. Valentines Week

I was never much of the romantic, give you flowers, feed you chocolate, take you to dinner, type. But I see that slowly changing, especially these past few months. Found myself picking flowers and putting them in diet pepsi bottles. Never really done anything like this before but it felt nice surprising someone and hearing the excitement in their voice or the look on their faces.

Its also nice receiving things too. I got a whole bunch of chocolate and an awesome kite on the way. Pics of that when it comes in.

Since I didnt want to do the typical movie and a dinner date (which I think is pretty boring and unoriginal). Instead, my valentines was spent visiting the East Bay Vivarium. If you havent been here, you are seriously missing out.

One of the most enjoyable Valentines Ive ever had. Finished it off with Top Dog, King Pin donuts, Sweetheart, and a movie. I was definitely happy.

Yesterday my brother participated in the Hayward Unified School District spelling bee championship. Top 8 would be going to the Alameda County Championship. My brother is super smart and after winning his school's spelling bee, he got a little too confident. He ended up messing up a word a round before the top 8 was chosen. He was pretty devastated, but I think he needed it. It humbled him up a bit and I hope he takes it as a learning experience. Im still really proud of him though.

Then the weather. Its been pretty bipolar lately. At the moment its gotten real cold and its pouring buckets and the wind is crazy. The sun really wants to come out and play. I hope it does soon so I can play along with it.

Gaining Weight

One consistent topic that consistently gets brought up is my weight. Most people think that Im too skinny and that I need to eat more. What not a lot of people see is that, for my size, I can eat. As in I can eat as much as your fat uncle and maybe even more. My ihop ham, sausage, and bacon meal followed by 20 pancakes can attest to that. But thank god to my awesome metabolism handed down to me by my parents, it is very difficult for me to gain any weight. But also it makes it way too easy for me to lose some.

Thats exactly whats been happening since the beginning of this year when I stopped eating meat. I think Ive lost 5 pounds give or take 2-3 pounds. I eat more now but still my weight keeps going down. I think it's because Im losing muscle mass. So I need to start lifting more. Oh but that's gonna have to wait cause I hurt my right shoulder and it hurts when I raise my arm. Dear shoulder, heal faster!

Got off work early and with the weather being awesome, I had to be outside. I know everyone was trying to watch the super bowl but I could care less, I could always check it later. That's what sportscenter and the internet are for.

Decided on going for a run/hike over at Coyote Hills. It was beautiful out there.

That was Sunday. Monday weather was pretty awesome as well. Woke up early to do laundry and just lay in bed till I had to leave for work. I decided to leave early so I can take my time getting there. Had enough time to stop at a park and lay under the shade for a bit which was so relaxing. If I didnt have work Im pretty sure I would have ended up felling asleep.
Its still January and its still suppose to be winter, but all the flowers are starting to bloom and all the trees are starting to sprout leaves.
Not to be a creep, but this old lady knows whats up. Sitting in the sun reading a book. If only I had enough time to sit down and read, Id be sitting next to her.
Then after work met up with Gary, Van, and Monz at Paddy's. Played sequence (one of the best games ever btw) and ended the night with some Venus Cafe. Ran into a couple high school friends of mine and also some former bikers.

Lastly, that shark fin soup was on point!

Sunsets

Im pretty sure that its been pretty obvious that I love sunsets. There is just something about ending your day looking at something pretty. Lately the bay area has been having the typical sunset until the other day, when there was just a bit of clouds in the sky and just the right amount of sun. BUT I was stuck at work so I couldn't fully enjoy it. I just had to through friend's facebook updates.

The past few days have been quite mellow. Nothing too exciting has been happening. Back to working again and I cant really complain. Been hanging out with some friends. Stuffing my face with some food and celebrating all these February birthdays.
Speaking of celebrating a birthday, I think this is a given when turning 21. Jeff blessing the toilet. Happy Birthday!

3 days off!

You know you've been working too much when you start complaining about having too many days off. Call me crazy but that's how I was today. I have just been so used to working 10, 12, or even 15 days straight that my life now feels weird not working. But I think the main reason is that I actually used up all of my time enjoying myself that I feel like I need to go work and suffer just to balance things out.

So... Day 1
Woke up to some blue skies and warm weather after a weekend of rain and cold. Hopped on the bike and put out a good 60 miles total for the day.
Looks like Im on some tropical vacation spot huh? Its just Fremont and the "new" waterpark at Lake Elizabeth.
After my usual Fremont Loop I rode some more to Ruel's place and got him out of the house to have an afternoon meal with me. Had some pretty satisfying thai food.

Later that night had a late night dinner. I tried ordering from the kid's menu and the waitress wouldnt let me... at first. After a couple begs she later gave in. I get enough comments about how young I look anyways, let me just use it to my advantage.

Day 2
Took a friend out for her birthday. Mama's! Never fails. If youre ever in Oakland or San Francisco and is looking for a good breakfast spot. Go look up Mama's Royal Cafe.
After breakfast, got in my car and was surprised by a little gift from the City of Oakland. A parking ticket! Oh well, Im not going to whine about it, sure I could have use those 58 dollars for other, (hopefully) better things, but I have a strong belief in balance, one thing goes bad, something good is bound to happen. So it'll just be a matter of time before that money comes back to me.
Later that day went over to my Grandparents cause my Grandpa had asked me to give him a haircut. Here he is halfway through.
I love this man. One of my biggest motivations to do good in life. Plus he lets me play jokes on him all the time and will laugh along with me! Example:
Day 3
Hopped on the bike again. Went to the pet store, then thrift store shopping, came up on some jackets. Had some alone time, spent at the marina waiting for the sun to set, watching the water drop, and putting together scenarios in my head about what type of life or what problems the people walking the trail have.
Once the sun was gone I had to start heading home cause my Mom has been giving me a hard time about riding my bike at night. She's a worrier and Ive learned to accept it. I just cant be telling her about all the crazy stuff that I do from day to day or she'll never let me out of the house.

But before I started on my way, my stomach was calling me to give it some food. So I decided to try out Marina Pizza. Got me a slice of cheese pizza and a pepsi. This might not be exciting to you but that slice was HUGE! ok. thats all.
and all of you already know that Im a sucker for sunsets. Great way to end the day.

That was the noise that was coming from my external hard drive this morning. I was trying to transfer some music into my new laptop but I guess that's not happening. The clicking noise also happened with my old laptop which usually means the hard drive is failing or has failed. Im going to bring it into a computer place to see if they can recover some files out of it, but if not then 6-8 years worth of music and pictures are gone. But I guess Im not too bummed out because I can always look back into this blog, facebook, and even myspace to try and refresh those memories. Thank god for the internet.

Anyways. Other than that, I havent really been in the best mood lately. Its more internal, just thinking a little too much about where I am in life right now. But like always, I am thankful I have a good group of friends that are always there for me to talk to and vent, makes life a lot easier to deal with.

Lazy Day #2

Well at the end of my first day off I was called to come out of the house by my little brother because one of our neighbor's house was on fire! Luckily we live right by the fire station and it was put out real fast but the house was pretty much gone.

and to not feel so guilty about staying in bed all day. I went and got my snake a mouse for dinner. Found out he hasnt been moving a lot lately cause he was shedding. He had a couple scars when I first got him so a few more sheds and hes gonna have flawless skin.
So onto Day Off #2.

I got to have lunch with a good friend of mine, Chris. We had a good couple of hours to catch up on each others busy lives. Always good catching up. Also I was being a little cheap, well I just finished eating breakfast before, so I got me horchata and snacked on the free chips and salsa. If I was homeless this would be the way to go!
My brother also won the spelling bee. Im telling you, this kid is going somewhere.
Once I got back home I realized that I had nothing to do or planned. Totally nothing. Its was a mixed feeling cause I love being busy but Ive also been longing for a day where I done have any commitments. Well, I decided to take my snake out (get your mind out the gutter) and let it roam around for a bit. Im sure he hates being locked up in his tank all day.

Then met up with Jeff and Thea and got some Jamba Juice. Jeff found the secret menu and ordered from there. Definitely put a smile on his face.
Then we went with his brother to the Nike Outlet where I finally grabbed myself a new pair of running shoes. Now I just need another day off to break them in.

Hopefully next week's weather will be as beautiful as this.

Lazy Day

Heard some good news yesterday that my eye surgery job will not be having any surgeries for 2 weeks. Even though this means I wont get paid, it also means that I have some free time to bum around and not do a god damn thing. Which I have not done in since... I cant even remember. So my anthem for the next 2 days is....

and since I have some free time, it also means I have some time to update this thing. So heres whats been going on in my life the past week.

First of all, have you guys seen "Black Swan"? If you havent go watch it NOW. Mila Kunis is BANGIN!! in that movie!
Been dressing a little grown up lately, but even then I still get comments as "you look like a school boy." But hey, at least I feel good!
Attended my cousin's baby's baptism where I was/am one of the godfathers.

At the reception I was chatting it up with a few of the other godparents and one of them is a X-Ray tech and he had a few pretty interesting photos to show us. Can anyone guess what this is?

Celebrated my old classmate Gretchen's birthday. Youre a good friend and all but I must say, you are a boring birthday girl! Spring in Winter

My prayers were answered and I am now enjoying this AMAZING weather. Feels like springtime... in January. But I guess I got more than the weather to enjoy. Epic sunsets, mcflurries, apple pies, sundaes, and surprisingly listening to bruno mars (dont hate) shared with a special someone. Lifes good.

Not So Lazy Sunday

I think its been over 2 years since I have had a Sunday where I didnt have to work. Well this Sunday was no different.

I woke up planning to ride my bike to work, but as I looked outside I was greeted with some dense fog. I could barely see the car lights. Even though I now have health insurance all thanks to Obamacare, I didnt want to risk getting run over. So as much as I dislike to, I drove to work.

As soon as I got off, I had to enjoy the amazing weather the Bay Area has been having. Got home, changed, and hopped on the bike. Went to some of my spots, ran some errands, and hung out with my grandparents.
I love this bike.
I told my Grandma that my shoulders have been bothering me and she went and gave me a massage. She found a huge knot on my left shoulder and massaged it out, I feel so much better. Going in for a 2nd session tomorrow. Man, I love that woman.

After a couple hours of hanging out, I went and rode over to my cousin's 15th birthday party. Made me feel so old, but my cousin's girlfriend wouldnt give me a beer cause she thought I was only 17. haha

Then browsing around the garage, my cousins and I found this old box filled with matches. Matches from all over, we later figured out that they are my cousin's grandparents. They are my dad's uncle/auntie which is my grandpa's brother, that would make them my? i dont know... anyways.
Some of the matches dated back to the 80's, even had a ticket to Disneyland back in '88, the tickets only cost $15! Also had this ticket to the world trade center! Crazy! I need to find something small to collect.

That was my Sunday.

Sunny Day

After a month or so of crap weather, the clouds finally let up and let the sun come out to play. Which worked out perfectly with my work schedule, my co workers trading me shifts, which meant I worked in the morning and I had the rest of the day to have some fun. Speaking of work, Im scheduled to work 12 days straight, but good things is easy and slow. Too slow at times, where I find myself just being bored out of my mind trying to find things to do. But hey, at least Im getting paid for it.
After work I met up with Jeff and Justin and we rode out to Coyote Hills. We planned to visit "The Boat" but to our surprise it isnt there anymore! :(
But life goes on and we continued on our ride and went up Nike Hill. Havent been actually putting in good miles on the bike so my legs werent really there. Plus I was getting super hungry, but I wasnt gonna give up and made it to the top. It was very painful.
On top of that I did it on the track bike while the other 2 were on their road bikes spinning away.
After all that rode all the way to San Leandro to go to Bike Party. They decided to have it in Hayward this month. Dont ask me why, there isnt really much in Hayward and the route they were taking was through the ghetto parts and on top of that, half of the riders were either drunk or stoned. Wouldnt wanna be riding in that kind of crowd. So we decided not to ride and just get picked up by Steve in his 10ft truck.
Ended the day with a nice large meal at Red Chilli. Tofu Pad Thai!

Been busy these past few days. Mostly trying to put my new bike together. Just few things to pick up here and there but it took more work and more time than expected. But everything worked out and its all finished, just the way I want it. From the replaced bare metal top tube to all the random mismatched components. So... another year is about to pass and I feel like I should be spending more time reflecting. But what good does that do? Well I do but I also dont have much time to write it all down cause of work and just the fact that I would rather be using my time doing other things than sitting in front of a computer. I just know that this year I accomplished some life goals, got the chance to travel, meet some amazing people, and pretty much made the most out of everything. I dont see this New Year as a chance to start fresh cause I am doing pretty damn well and we all know resolutions are BS. You gotta try and improve yourself all year round, not just for the first few weeks of every year, so Im just gonna keep doing what Ive been doing and hope that my luck will carry on to 2011.

2010 was a damn good year (thanks to everyone that made that possible) and I hope 2011 will be even better.

After spending Christmas Eve and Christmas day working I was looking forward to having some free time. Once I got off of work Sunday afternoon, I met up with Ryan and Ruel and got some riding done. Its been over a year (since summer of '09) that all 3 of us were on our bike, riding some respectable miles. Got us all nostalgic and shit.
And of course, we rode somewhere to fill our stomachs. Cause of the cold weather, pho was a no brainer.
While eating we got in contact with Scott who was just getting off work and was hungry. Guess what he was craving... pho! We later found out that Josh and Charles were riding to Fremont to eat too. All of us met up to go to another pho spot. I didnt think another picture of a bowl would be necessary. But after that we rode, well raced to Union City Tapioca Express (which I won by the way! :D ha!) then got bored and rode to Tuttimelon and got bored and headed to Krispy Kreme.
After we got our fill of donuts someone came up with the bright idea to go drinking at Jerry's Grill. Ordered beer that comes in this awesome container. I think Scott is going to be trying to make one of these at home and when he does Ill let y'all know.

Waking up the next morning my body definitely made it known how hard I worked. I was sore in weird places and was just exhausted. So I slept in since it was my only day off for the week till who knows when.

But I got a text from my old classmate Karen. I was way too tired to get out of bed but she bribed me with some sushi and I could not pass that up. It was nice catching up but at the same time depressing cause of the whole not being able to find a full-time job subject. But it's all good, we got jobs and were happy.
She then drove me around to try and buy some oil for my car. My Dad will only let me put one kind of oil in the car and he just had to pick one that was so difficult to find. I had to go to 3 different stores and making phone calls to find this thing.
Finally finding that damn oil, got home to an empty house. I then realized that I haven't fed my turtles some fishes in a while, so I headed to Pet Club a block away from my house. Where I got carried away checking out all the other animals they have.

Lately my interest have pointed to Corn Snakes. I would love to have one. Hopefully I can get one soon, Charles offered to give me his albino snake, even though it thought I was food the last time I played with it and ended up biting my arm, I will be more than happy to take it in. Just look at these baby ones. So pretty.

As I was walking out I saw a something real bright from the corner of my eye. Then I saw this little guy.

Later that night my good friend of mine, Chris, hit me up to hang out. He's leaving for Puerto Rico tomorrow to celebrate New Years out there. Also we havent hung out or had the chance to catch up on each others' lives in a while. So some catching up was in need and we did just that. Its always nice to know that no matter how long I havent talked to whom I consider "good" friends, that the next time we do see/talk to each other that our relationship hasnt gone down the drain. I mean if I consider you a good friend, I dont see the need to constantly be in contact cause we have our own separate lives and I would expect us to be friends till we need canes and wheelchairs to get around. haha.
those were a good 2 days.
